TRADE, INDUSTRY & TOURISM:Tourism Development and Rural Enterprise Programme

24th February, 2022

The programme was organized and implemented to introduce and establish the importance of rural enterprise programmes and also the need to promote tourism activities in the various communities and the district at large. This will help elevate the economic status of the local government and the economic lives of the individual as well.

During the occasion, the facilitator highlighted on the strategies and policies of the government and the various district Assemblies to eradicate poverty in the country basically among those in the rural areas where people finds it difficult to access jobs and other opportunities unlike their counterparts in the urban areas who are open to many avenues. He said, these programs which involves the training of both men and women on certain jobs will help create more employment in the rural areas and by this reducing poverty and dependency rate. He said, in order to make the local economy vibrant, there is the need to improve the economic lives of the people by making available work opportunities and open market for the goods of the people.

The facilitator in his submissions emphasized that, tourism now has become the tool of improving the local economy of many communities as people travel from near and afar to visit those sites. He encouraged the members to protect any feature nature has gifted them as the Assembly is making plans to develop some of these features into tourist sites. The facilitators enlightened the members about the returns the district as well as the communities could fetch from the available natural features if developed into a tourist site. They advised them to protect these features from perpetrators. The facilitators gave example as the river fishes at Kyekyewere could be used as tourist site to fetch income for the district.

The occasion was attended by the various stakeholders who contributed in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project. A total of 20 participants attended the programme from the various communities with 12 being males and 8 being females
