A national alert of Ebola outbreak in in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda was received in May 2026 which the District had to prepare to respond by planning and implementing intensive surveillance and preventive measures.
1. Ebola epidemic preparedness plan was developed with inputs from health workers and key stakeholders such as members of PHEMC.
2. Meeting of District Health Committee, District Public Health Public Health Emergency Management Committee and District Risk Communication Committee was organized on 28th May 2026 which discussed and finalized strategies for implementation of Ebola outbreak prevention activities.
3. Workers of all 9 health facilities in the district were sensitized on Ebola surveillance and response actions.
4. A total of 37 communities have been sensitized on key Ebola prevention messages and promotion of personal hygiene practices using mobile public address system on pick-up. Community Information Centers were used and identified groups like churches, mosques, markets and transport operators reached with key preventive messages to promote early detection and notification of health authorities. There has been radio discussion on FISH FM.
5. Health facilities stocked basic medical and non-medical consumables including personal protective equipment.
6. Surveillance was enhanced by routine sensitization, records reviews and triaging of clients in facilities for early case detection.
7. Infection prevention and control (IPC) has been enhanced by ensuring availability surveillance tools, sample collection and transportation kits and use of PPEs and hand-washing equipment in health facilities.
8. Case holding areas for isolation and management of suspected cases been designated and Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) of health facilities prepared.
Birth and Death Unit is responsible for issuing of Birth and Death certificate to individuals within and outside the District.
